What is a hurt book?
A hurt book can be one of two things. It may simply be a book that was returned to a publisher because it was not sold by a bookstore. Some publishers feel that it is easier to handle these returned books as "hurts", than to check each one page by page to see if it has any damage. Hurt books may also be books that have minor cosmetic damage. Typical damage would include bent corners on the cover or pages, small scratches on the cover, or shelf wear. We do not knowingly sell books with any damage that affect either their readabiltiy or useability. If you find undetected damage in a hurt book you order from us, return it along with your packing slip and we will either replace the book or refund your money.

Why is the book I ordered out of stock?
We make every effort to keep the inventory of our website accurate, but occasionally there may be situations where a book we list is out of stock. Obviously, quantities of hurt books are limited. The same may be true of new books that we have purchased at a special price. These books are subject to prior sale. If we receive more orders for a book than we have copies, orders will be filled in the order received. If a book you order is out of stock, we will ship the rest of your order immediately, after deducting the price of the out of stock item and its shipping cost from your total.

I'm still not comfortable ordering online. What can I do?
Go ahead and place the items you want to buy in your shopping cart. When you have finished making your selections, print the contents of your cart by hitting the print button on your browser. Go to the Contact Us page and choose how you want to contact us to place your order.

To phone your order have your printed copy of your shopping cart ready, then tell our staff person what you wish to order. They will check to make sure it is available then guide you through the rest of the ordering process. To mail or fax order, send a copy of your shopping cart along with a note containing your name, address, credit card information, and email address or daytime phone number to our address or toll free fax number.

We take Checks, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.

How can I pay by check?
Simply put the items you wish to purchase in your shopping cart. Then when you are finished shopping, hit our Check Out button. Follow the instructions there until you come to the Options page. At that point click on our "Pay by Check" option and click continue.

I'm a retailer. Can I use my Baker Book House account?
If you are a retailer, you can use your Baker Book House account. Just follow the pay by check instructions. When you come to the Payment page, go to the comments section. Let us know you are retailer and include your Baker account number, then click continue. We'll bill your order to your account.

How long will books remain in my shopping cart?
Books remain in your cart indefinitely.

How do you calculate the exchange rate for foreign currency?
If you pay by credit card, the exchange rate will be determined by your credit card company. This actually works to your benefit since credit card companies usually have some of the most favorable exchange rates available anywhere.

Can I return a book?
We are so certain that you will be satisfied with the quality of the books you purchase here at Baker Book House Online that we offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you are not satisfied with a book you bought from us, send the book and an explanation of the reason for your return to us within 30 days of purchase and we will refund your purchase price. Books must be returned in their original condition. We ask that you return the book via UPS so it will be insured and traceable.
